Diethanolamine (DEA) offers a wide range of applications because it has alcohol and amine characteristics. As an amine, DEA is mildly alkaline and reacts with acids to form salts or soaps. As an alcohol, DEA can be esterfied. DEA is a clear colorless, viscous, hygroscopic liquid with an odor resembling that of ammonia.
